Chandigarh: Reeling under the third wave of Covid-19 which is intense by Omicron variant, Punjab has witnessed a 148% increase in the number of infected patients who need hospitalization for the past two weeks.
Despite significant gains, the proportion of hospitalization is currently still less than a wave of destructive second infections that have made health infrastructure in the state, both in the public and private sectors.
The big part of the Covid bed – 11,409 of 12,999 – is still available in all states to treat critical painful patients.
The data compiled by TOI showed that on January 9, total occupancy was 642, which contributed 5% of a total of 12,593 beds.
A total of 164 beds intensive care units (ICU), are equipped with ventilators, occupied from 1,360 (12.05%), while 88 ICU beds without ventilators used 1,602 (5.49%).
Against the oxygen bed capacity of 9,631, as many as 390 (4.04%) was occupied.
Until 3pm on January 21, 12% of 12,999 beds were occupied where the maximum contribution came from Mohali, Patiala, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, and Amritsar, a hit-hit district.
With 432 of 1,769 used, the highest occupancy rate was 24.24% recorded in ICU beds without temporary ventilators 246 of 1,421 (17.3%) from ICU beds with ventilators used to provide care to patients and 912 (9.29%) Oxygen beds are occupied.
Regarding the availability of 96.75MT medical oxygen, the request was only 6.79mt.
Learning from the mistake made during the second wave, which saw four dying because of lack of oxygen, Punjab had fulfilled the gap.
Hospitals with more than 50 beds have installed adsorption swing pressure (PSA) oxygen generator, where 41 of these plants have been installed through the central government and 37 other plants through donations at medical colleges and government health facilities.
The medical gas pipeline system has been placed in all district hospitals and sub-division hospitals (SHD) countries.
Punjab Covid-19 Nodal Officer Dr.
Rajesh Bhaskar stated that despite an increase in inpatient numbers, there were many beds available to treat critical painful patients.
