New Delhi: Towards the winter session from November 29, a group of children urged MPs on the occasion of the World Children’s Day to work towards bridging the learning gap, which appeared during a pandemic.
Interaction with parliamentarians is part of the “virtual child parliament” organized by parliamentary groups for children (PGC) in partnership with UNICEF.
Children share their anxiety and concern in front of 35 Parliamentarians, including the Chairperson of PGC Gaurav Gogoi – MP Congress at Lok Sabha.
PGC is a multiparty, non-mandatory MPS group, which is interested in advancing children’s rights.
It provides a platform for parliamentarians for cross fertilization ideas to discuss problems and ways to advance the rights of children.
Suggestions range from state policy and central policy initiatives to enable access to sustainable online education solutions to create peer groups in schools to assist in dealing with anxiety arising from pandemics and ensuring a more diverse curriculum in accordance with the 2020 national education policy to make education Empower and interesting experiences.
Representing 1,500 children from 16 states, 14 children share their experiences and present “charter charges” to PGC.
This charter focuses on the reopening of safe schools and fair access to online learning, reducing the size of the syllabus and prioritizing vaccination for children.
The PGC chairman said, “I want you to know that we have your best interest in the heart”.
One PGC priest, Heena Gavit, said the most urgent problem in hand was how to redeem learning losses to prevent children, especially girls.
