New Delhi: The second international T20 between India and Sri Lanka in Colombo on Tuesday was postponed by one day after the visiting Krunal Pandya could be tested positive for Covid-19, forcing him out of the series with seven-day isolated.
However, all eight nearby contacts, isolated, have been tested “negative” in the RT-PCR test but as a precautionary measure will not be able to take the field on Wednesday.
Because the close contact of most players, India may have to take a drained side.
In accordance with Sri Lankan Health Safety Protocol, Kronal will not be able to travel back to India with other members of the contingent on July 30 because he must now undergo mandatory isolation and get a negative RT-PCR report.
The third and last T20 is scheduled to be held on Thursday.
“Krunal is symptomatic with cough pain and throat.
He is clearly out of the series and will not be able to return with other squad,” BCCI sources tracked development in Colombo told PTI in anonymity condition.
“But the good news is that all eight nearby contacts identified by BCCI medical officers (Dr.
Abhijit Salvi) have been tested negatively.
But as a precautionary measure cannot take the field.” For now, the series of three matches lit even if there are several cases, the Indian team has enough players with a negative RT-PCR report for the team field.
Krunal, which was tested positively on Tuesday morning, was quarantined.
“The second T20 of Sri Lanka and India was originally scheduled to be played on July 27, it has been pushed forward one day and will now take place on Wednesday, July 28,” the BCCI secretary said in a media statement.
“Take a quick antigen test in front of the match on Tuesday morning, Krunal Pandya was found positive.
The medical team has identified eight members as close contact,” the release previously stated.
However, it has been studied from the BCCI source that all members of the Indian contingent are inserted into room insulation until they receive their negative RT-PCR reports.
All contingents have undergone a RT-PCR test that day to ensure further outbreaks in the squad.
“If everyone is in clear, we can have a match on Wednesday.
Maximum among the eight close contacts which are also in mandatory isolation are players,” added the BCCI source.
“We are all in isolation in rooms until the test report comes,” said Indian contingent members in Colombo.
India traveled with a squad of 20 members plus four bye by Bowle.
The match must be played at the Premadasa Radium.
Now, there will be a back-to-back match on Wednesday and Thursday as long as there are no more players who test positive to influence the side balance that will lead to cancellation.
India won the first international T20 with 38 runs and was quite confusing how the Kronal, which has been part of a strict bio-bubble for the past month, contracted by a virus.
While this series is being played with closed doors, Bubble Bubble Bio-Security at the Taj Samudra Hotel in Colombo, where the Indian team lives, can be a reason.
One logistics staff (bus driver, groundsmen) or catering staff on the ground can also be operators.
This development also tends to influence the planned trip Prithvi Shaw and Suryakumar Yadav, which will join the Indian team in England after this series for the assignment of the upcoming test against England next month.
The duo should be connected with the red ball squad in the UK after completion of the T20 series and it is still unclear whether both of them are among eight, which is closely related to the crunals.
