Nagpur: This city has seen the north trend in the sale of private vehicles – four wheels and two-wheeled – in the first five months of fiscal today.
There was an increase of 2.6 times in registration of new vehicles over April 1 August August 31 financial year compared to the last fiscal unity period.
Nagpur City has a vehicle population of more than 18.52 lakh.
According to vehicle registration data, in all 19,809 new vehicles, including 17,933 private vehicles, registered from April 1 to August 31 this year at the Regional Transportation Office (City) and Dy RTO (East) in the city.
During the same period last year, in all 7,066 new vehicles, including 6,676 private vehicles, registered.
An official in the motor vehicle department said that by 2020, there was a decrease in vehicle registration because of restrictions imposed after the Covid-19 outbreak, which affected RTOS’s income.
According to Satish Kumar, a sales manager with four-wheeled companies in the city, to follow the appropriate behavior of Covid, more citizens began to use private vehicles while there were fewer preferences for public transport facilities such as city and metro buses.
“Car sales and two-wheeled in Nagpur slowly increase to prevent the spread of Covid-19,” Kumar said.
Data obtained from City RTO and East Dyrto revealed that more four-wheeled vehicles have been sold in the city compared to two-wheeled in the first five months of the last three years.
In 2019-20 (April 1 to August 31), the two offices of the Department of Transportation had registered 5,065 cars, while during the same period at 2020-21, he saw sales of 2,168.
In the current fiscal (2021-2022), 5,495 four wheels are registered with both offices.
Representatives of financing companies in the city also stated that demand for vehicle loans has increased.
“We see good demand, especially for four wheels and two-wheeled,” said Rajnish Verma from a private finance company.
However, traffic experts felt more private vehicles mean increased congestion on city streets and blame them on poor public transport systems in the city.
NMC has a fleet of 400 bus aapli but only operates 290.
“This is done to curb losses on public transportation.
This attitude will be proven expensive in the long run.
Air pollution and noise and travel time will increase,” said Traffic Activist Raju Wagh and added that The city has witnessed a steep increase in a road accident.
Ro rustic has also witnessed a steep increase in the sale of new vehicles.
Against 6,638 vehicles in five months 2020-21, registered 13,803 new vehicles during the same period of this financial year.
