New Delhi: Covid Zydus Congila Zycov-D Vaccine – The world’s first DNA vaccine that has received authorization of emergency use in India – will soon be included in the National Covid Vaccination Program, officials said.
The government says Zycov-D will be purchased at different prices from Covishield and Covaxin – two vaccines currently being used in government inoculation programs.
“We are talking to the manufacturer.
Because this (Zycov-D) is a three-dose vaccine and therefore comes with an unnatural shipping system, it will have a different price used in the Covid vaccination program,” said Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan.
At present, the government processes the Serum Institute in India Covishield at Rs 205 per dose and Bharat Biotech Covaxin at Rs 215 per dose.
“It will soon be introduced in the vaccination program,” added Bhushan without mentioning the date for the launch.
While Zycov-D has obtained an emergency use authorization for use throughout 12 years, the government could not begin to investigate children over 12 years soon after the launch, official source said.
