New Delhi: In 2020, when road death and traffic fell in all countries as Covid restrictions reduced vehicle movements, extraordinary bursts in the number of death-wheeled riders were recorded in 14 states and the United States, including Delhi, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Karnataka and Chhattisgarh, according to data released by the National Crime Note Bureau (NCRB).
The two-wheel residents in the total accidental death increased sharply at 2020 to 43.6% from 36% in 2019, despite the overall death in this category saw a marginal decline of 58,747 last year.
In particular, there has been a quantum leap in parts of two-wheeled riders in the total number of deaths that have multiplied in the past 10 years.
This has emerged as a greater concern amid the target of the government to cut the road death by 50% in the next nine years.
The increase in the share seems to have a direct link with how people have to use this mode of transportation in the absence or public transportation operation.
Significantly, past trends also show how there has been a stable increase in its inlet share in total deaths, namely 22.4% in 2011 and 29.3% in 2015.

This shows how the maximum increase in the number of two-wheel residents killed in the crash is in Telangana – from 3,185 in 2019 to 3,963 years ago.
Andhra Pradesh also reported a similar increase from 3.012 in 2019 to 3,714 over the past year.
Tamil Nadu, which was always done very well during the normal years, also saw leaps in such deaths in 433 for 2020 and in Madhya Pradesh increased from 4,732 in 2019 last year.
NCRB data also shows that the total share of vulnerable road users (VRUS) was killed in 2020 was 56.5% compared to 49% in the previous year.
VRUs include pedestrians, cyclists, two-wheel residents and others use non-motorized transportation.
While in 2019, a total of 75,814 people under this category were killed from the death of 1.55 cumulative 1.55 lakh, for 2020 a total of 75 361vrus lost their lives on the road crashes from the total road fatality of 1.33 lakh.
The increasing share of vrus in road deaths in middle and low income countries has become the main cause of worries throughout the world.
While the fatality under the category of non-motorized traffic is equally problem, NCRB data also shows that even though almost 16% reduces overall road death at the national level due to covid-induced locking, almost no decrease in such deaths.

MP reported only 191 deaths less during last year compared to 2019 and Telangana saw almost 282 less road deaths.
