Pune: People who vaccinate with Covishield and Covaxin produce stronger immune responses to SARS-COV-2 and their variants than the two doses of the same vaccine, a preliminary study by the Indian Medical Research Board (ICMR) has been found.
The researchers studied 18 of the 20 people who mistakenly gave Covishield as the first Jab and Covaxin as the second in Uttar Pradesh in April-May.
Individual blood samples were analyzed at different stages for 60 to 70 days after vaccination.
“Mix-and-Match Covishield and Covaxin as the first and second doses trigger a superior immune response rather than two doses both covishield or covaxin,” said Senior Scientist ICMR Rajni Kant, research researcher.
Coronavirus Live Updatethis is the first report of mixed immunization using covishield-based vector adenovirus and the entire Covaxin based on Viri-On which is not active in hum-ans that has shown security and increase immune responses significantly.
This finding is important because experts have asked whether the dose of covishield and covaxin can be mixed to get around the lack of supply.
At present, the intentional mixing of two vaccines is not recommended.
These findings can also have a significant influence on the Covid-19 vaccination program – Heterologist (MIX-and-Match) approach to immunization can pave the way for strat-edies which provide better program integration of the variant.
But to prove these findings convincingly, the ICMR researchers said the controlled trial randomly multicentre would be needed.
The immunogenicity of vaccines is the ability of foreign substances, such as antigens induced by vaccines (virus particles), to provoke the immune response.
Kant said, “Immunogenicity Profile of Alpha, Beta, and Delta variants in groups that receive covishield and Covaxin are superior.
The IgG antibodies and neutralized the participants’ antibody responses were also significantly higher than in homologous groups, where participants received two good doses From Covishield or Covaxin.
“Another investigator in this study, Senior Pragya Yadav scientist from the ICMR National Virology Institute, said,” This finding shows that immunization with a combination of vector-based vector-based vector (covishield) is followed by all viral vaccines that are inactive (covaxin ) Not only safe, but also bring up better immunogenicity.
