New Delhi: To check the status of Covid-19 vaccination an individual, the Cowin portal has developed a new API called ‘recognize your customer / client vaccination status’, the UNI Ministry said on Friday.
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (Mohfw) said that to use the application program interface (API), individuals need to enter their cellphone numbers and names after that they will receive the OTP they have to enter.
In return, Cowin will send a response to the verification entity about individual vaccination status, which will be as follows – 0 – People are not vaccinated, 1 person vaccinated partly or 2 people fully vaccinated.
This response will be signed digitally and can be shared instantly with the verification entity.
This can be useful in cases where an entity does not need to see the certificate in full and only need to know whether someone has been vaccinated or not, the statement said.
Real life examples can occur when when booking train tickets, an individual will enter the details needed to buy a ticket and if needed, the entity concerned will also get vaccination status in the same transaction, with the same individual agreement, the ministry said.
The ministry further said that KYC-vs will facilitate all cases of use and more.
This is a preservation based approval and privacy.
In addition, to facilitate fast integration and faster adoption, the Cowin team has prepared web pages with fire, which might be embedded in any system.
This will allow unlimited integration with any system in a short time.
“In addition, the use cases shown, this service can be used by service, private or public providers, which verify individual vaccination status is very important to facilitate the service requested,” he said.
At present, Cowin has issued a certificate that can be verified digitally as evidence of vaccination for each vaccinated individual.
This certificate can be stored on digital devices (smartphones, tablets, laptops etc.) or are stored in DIGI changing from where it can be shared digitally as and if needed as evidence of vaccination.
Similarly, at the entry point where the certificate is needed (eg, in the mall, office complex, public event etc.), this can be displayed in digital and physical form.
However, there may be examples where an entity does not need to see the certificate in full and only need to know whether someone has been vaccinated or not.
For example, companies / employers may want to know the vaccination status of employees to continue functions in the office, workplace etc.
Railways and airlines may want to get passenger vaccination status that is reserved on their train.
Therefore, the Ministry said, there was a need to allow Aadhaar such as authentication services for vaccination status through Cowin.
“To take care of these cases and others that might arise, Cowin has developed a new API called ‘recognize your customer / client vaccination status’ or KYC-vs,” the ministry said.
More than 72 doses of Crore vaccines have been given since the vaccination campaign against Covid-19 is marked on January 16 this year by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The ministry further added that as a socio-economic activity gradually revived while maintaining everyone’s safety, there is a need for ways to convey individual vaccination status to entities with whom they might be involved or all the reasons, as employees, passengers, residents etc.
