Nagpur: Police Commissioner (CP) Amitesh Kumar on Friday prohibits heavy vehicle parking on city streets.
“If parking is found, the truck will be confiscated for at least three months,” Puncak police said told the transporter.
Personal buses will also not be allowed to stop or choose passengers from city streets.
They must operate their bus only from the Plaza’s personal bus in Nit Plaza near Jagnade Square, said CP.
The decision was taken because of the involvement of 140 strange trucks in fatal accidents.
In 2021, the city lost 255 people in an accident on the road, where 140 died due to heavy vehicle involvement, Kumar said.
DCPS Sarang Awad and Lohit Matani attended a meeting held at the Police Gymkhana, among other senior police officials.
CP shows, “Analysis of road accidents has revealed that driving the wrong side by truck drivers, parking on the road, speeding and driving is wrong near the gas station is the main reason.” Therefore, Kumar told TII, “City transport was warned not to park their vehicles on the roadside across the city from Saturday night and so on.” Trucks must be parked only in designated places such as transportation alkasan repair Nagpur (NIT) near the automotive square, he directs.
Representatives of the Marwah nail transport association told CP that there was a lack of basic facilities such as toilets and retirement rooms in plaza transportation and the streets inside the place were also inappropriate.
Representatives of the Plaza operator called Marwah’s statement wrong and claimed that the toilet and road were in good condition.
Within a few days, the hostel will also be available for the driver, a representative said at a meeting.
Marwaha also urged CP to intervene to minimize RS250 daily leases per truck to RS50.
CP refuses to interfere and say it is a prerogative Nit.
Kumar also expressed concern over the increase in road accidents in the MIDC Hingna and Wadi regions due to rash and negligent truck driver.
Parking trucks there also caused traffic congestion, he said.
Truckers responded by saying that encroachment by the roadside vendor was ignored.
For this, the city police chief directed a senior police inspector from the police station to launch an anti-encroachment drive against roadside encroachment.
“Don’t wait for the agent concerned to react,” he said, adding that the Nagpur police motif was to curb a road accident.
