Nagpur: Amitesh Kumar City Police Chief has placed three policemen, including an officer, under suspension because of their alleged role in the death of the Manoj Thawkar custodian who was physically challenged in Pardi earlier this month.
On Sunday, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari met the Thawkar to show solidarity.
The suspended police have been identified as Sub-Inspector of Mukesh Dhoble, Constable Namdeo Charde and Akash Shanane who have intercepted Thawkar at Nakabandi Point when he tried to escape.
Two cross-police officers, who were presented, were given a long rope by the top brass, which stated they were not involved in the episode.
The State Crime Investigation Department (CID) has so far collected the relevant CCTV footage of the incident from the Pardi Police Station, the place of the incident and a private hospital where Thawkar was declared dead before entering.
Thawkar who was injured was taken to the hospital from the police station where he had collapsed.
Pardi police have registered the case as an accidental death.
