Nagpur: Amitesh Kumar City Police Chief on Wednesday released the Locality Red-Light of Ganga Jamuna after a meeting of locals.
The decision has raised questions for the survival of 1,200 to 1,500 female sex workers without livelihoods.
Kumar said that the police had acted on feedback and complaints of local residents who had caused voices against illegal activities there.
“Notifications below section 7 of the ACT ribbon and 144 CRPC will soon be issued to prohibit meat trade activities here.
Whoever stepped into the location for the activity will be prosecuted,” he added to the residents of a brothel to continue their stay and have access to Important services in an unbraced way.
Easo Daniel, Executive Director of Sharanstan Charity Society, said he welcomed the idea to stop trading meat but women must be rehabilitated on priority without harming their rights.
Hemlata Lohave, the Indian Red Cross Ssociety Project Manager, asked when the government planned to deny the right to life of these women, then why in the first place it gave them food and rations during locking and why the AIDS program was implemented here.
The Mayor of Dayashankar Tiwari said that he held a telephone conversation with the top police for this issue.
“CP called me and looked for support to close the city red light area.
Amitesh Kumar told me that not only illegal activities but also cruel minors were forced into meat trade.
As a social cause, I also promised full NMC support to the police City, “said Mayor.
Senior NMC officials, including Head B Radhakrishnan, but claimed that they had not yet realized the police plan.
