Tiruvarur: The tension applies in Neveramangalam in the Tiruvarur district as a 50-year-old CPI official hacked to death by an unknown gang on Wednesday.
The police identified the deceased such as Nadesa Thamizharvan, a native of Olimathi Village.
Inspector General of the Central Zone V Balakrishnan and several high-ranking officials visited the place and conducted an investigation.
Big police forces have been deployed in the area.
Nadesa Thamizharvan is the Secretary of Trade Union in Veenamanglam for the past 10 years.
He stood near the City Panchayat Office in Meonamangalam, when an alley arrived there and attacked him with sharp weapons and escaped.
He died in that place, the police said.
When he heard the news, a large number of officials and party cadres gathered at Neveramangalam Bazaar and blocked the road condemning the attack.
They demanded the police to arrest the perpetrators immediately.
A police team led by Tiruvarur supervisor from Police C Vijayakumar rushed to place and held talks with the protesters.
However, they did not allow the police to move the body to the hospital for Postmortem.
The police calmed them down and then took the body to the medical college hospital in Thanjavur.
Because tensions increased, around 200 police personnel were posted in and around the area to prevent unwanted incidents.
A party actively officer Thamizharvan has struggled for the cause of farmers and laborers and won in his struggle in veens.
Apart from several political cases, various criminal cases were also delayed to him, the police said.
He survived his wife and two sons.
Thanjavur Deputy Inspector General of Police Pravesh Kumar said, “We have identified the suspects with the help of CCTV recording.
The victim’s accomplices have also given a few names.” SP C Vijayakumar has formed five special teams to arrest the suspect.
The question revealed that one of the main suspects was before with the party and recently transferred its loyalty to other parties.
