‘Crack whip on illegal construction in KNP’

Guwahati: The Central Court Central Empowerment Committee (CEC) has asked the Assam government to take action against illegal construction, which violates the 2019 APEX court order, in eight wildlife corridors identified from Kaziranga National Park and Tiger reserves.
On October 6, the Secretary CEC Secretary Amarnatha Shetty has asked the Secretary of the Head of Assam Jishnu Barua to submit action taken to report to the panel within four weeks.
Development occurred after CEC received a letter on September 10 from Hemen Hazarika, scientists and head of the integrated regional office of the Minister, Forest and Climate Change based on Guwahati, which included inspection reports on violations of violations of April 12, 2019 the Supreme Court command.
The examination was carried out by the Deputy Inspector General of Forest (center) Laetitia J Syeemiong.
The report noted that there was a “serious violation” of the APEX court order and said illegal construction had to be “destroyed” whether it was only a small hut, Dhaba or a concrete restaurant or restaurant.
It also mentions the existence of a new expansionary house, which is owned by the “regional minister”, in Kancanjuri’s animal corridor in Nagaon Regency.
“In this corridor, many tea plantations are seen.
There is a certain house near the newly built old tea park after 2019.
Also, the earth seems to have been explored by the excavator to increase the tea garden area.
It was told that this place was owned by the Minister of Region.
A little superior , a new restaurant is also being built, “he added.
On August 22, Syeemiong together with Director Park P Sivakumar examined construction activities at eight of nine corridors.
The examination was carried out after the complaint submitted by RTI and Environmental Activist Rohit Choudhary in May, referring to new construction in the animal corridor in the insult of a court command.
“Inspections are carried out at the field level after being crossed at eight stretching animal corridors, where illegal development was found so far,” said the report.
In addition to banning all types of mining, courts as well “not allowed new construction, including in private land, which forms part of nine animal corridors identified”.
The panel appointed by SC also urged the Assam government to tell all the nine animal corridors identified.
It is said to pass for safe animals, there must be connectivity during seasonal animal movements, therefore 44,205 km will be ideal than approved 37.48 km.
