Patna: The team of police joints and mining and geological departments arrested 19 people on Thursday as part of the crackdown on illegal sand mining in Mekra Village in the Patna Regency Block.
However, the main kingpin of the mining racket escaped.
According to sources, the team carried out attacks and captured smugglers while they were carrying white sand on two large boats.
Inspector Rajnandan from the Mokama police station stated that the Primary defendant had avoided arrest.
He added, “Police actions must have caused concern among illegal sand traders.” The person arrested was identified as Akhilesh Kumar, Sahdev Bind, MithLesh Kumar, Khuli Bind, Parshuram Bind, Saajan Bind, Heera Mahto, Khakra Mahto, Sulhan, Kancho Mahto, Mantu, Sukhram Kumar, Raviraj, Jairam Mahto, Sakhichan, and Jano Singh.

Meanwhile, Jamho police in Siwan District arrested one Santosh Singh in connection with the murder of BJP activist Janardhan Singh.
