Bokaro: The district mining department on Tuesday seized 9,000 tonnes of iron ore fines of Vedanta Electrosteel Steel Limited (ESL) stocked at Bandhdih Railway Siding under Chandankyari block.
Massive raids were also conducted separately to curb illegal sand lifting.
In Chas and Chandankyari blocks, district mining department teams headed by DMO Gopal Kumar Das conducted raids at half a dozen spots and seized the stocked minerals and trucks used for ferrying the material without valid permit.
In Bermo sub-division, a team headed by SDO Anant Kumar seized 13 tractors carrying illegal sand on the National Highway-32 at Jainamoad.
About 18 days ago, the DMO had lodged an FIR against nine officials including the GM of Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) for sending coal through railway without valid permit.
DMO Das said, “About 9,000 tonnes of iron ore fines of Chandankyari-based Vedanta Electrosteel Steel Limited (ESL) have been confiscated at Bandhdih.” He added that the assistant manager of the Vedanta company has been given the responsibility of the seized iron ore fines.
“These iron ore fines used to come from other states.
We have asked Vedanta ESL to show valid permits,” he said.
Along with this, four coal-laden hywa vehicles were also seized under Chas Mufassil police station area on National State Road No 23.
“These vehicles were going to Giridih district without a transport challan.
In this case, an FIR has been registered at Chas Mufassil police station against the driver and the owner, among others,” Das said.
