Kolkata: The police preparing for fresh crackdown on crackers which is prohibited from ensuring the puja chhath does not pollute the city of the city.
The city’s air quality has changed from moderate to poor in one hour at Puja times when the police arrested nearly 1,200 people in Kolkata and Bidhannagar to sell or give birth to illegal crackers at times of Puja and Dewali Night.
Police said they were aware that people had illegal cracker stocks.
Even on Sunday, a man was arrested with 70kgs from illegal crackers from the Bowbazar area, taking a total seizure to 8,827 kg of crackers that were prohibited.
Lalbazar said the anti-cracker attack would continue until the Jagaddhatri Puja Immersions.
The police have been asked to carry out attacks that often occur in city firecrackers, such as Old China China Bazar and Chandi Chowk in Central Kolkata and several specific bags in the south to prevent the sale of firecrackers before CHHATH.
Announcement of loudspeakers and drive awareness has also been planned in several business hubs and the environment in Posta, Burrabazar and several places in North and South Kolkata.
“We maintain the same level of alertness as during Puja times when we found a number of sellers quietly selling crackers,” said a senior police officer Kolkata.
Focusing on the next few days, the multiple awareness campaign has also marched by the police.
At several police stations in the East and Southeast Police Division, local police even reached by Maithili experts to help them spread the news in local languages.
