Lucknow: The level of air pollution in Diwali night city is the highest in three years.
In fact, the Gomtinagar and Charbagh area turned into a gas chamber with a level of pollution increased by 250% at night compared to normal days.
This was revealed in the air quality assessment study conducted by the Institute of CSIR-India toxicology research (IITR), released on Sunday.
Track the level of pollution at your citynine location in the city monitored by IITR – Gomtinagar, Charbagh, Aminabad, Alambagh, Indiranagar, Vikasnagar, Aliganjar, Amusi and Chowk – in the study.
The average concentration of PM2.5 of all these Diwali regions (November 4) is 556 micrograms per cubic meter air.
In comparison, the level in 2019 and 2020 were 402mg and 346mg, at night Diwali.
Similarly, the average PM10 concentration in Diwali this year is 883mg, higher than the value of 2019 and 2020, which reaches 604mg and 536mg each.
The only consolation is that these year values are less than 2017 and 2018.
This year, monitoring is carried out from 2-5 November (pre-diwali, Dewali Day and post-Diwali).
Alarming increases in air pollution witnessed in all regions at night Diwali with the average concentration of ultrafine particles of PM2.5 around 4-14 higher than the limits permitted 60mg per cubic meter air, determined by the standard national ambient air quality (NAQ).
Similarly, the average concentration of PM10 particles in the air is 8-11 times higher than the limits permitted 100mg per cubic meter air.
“The surge was due to fireworks and vehicle pollution in the city during the Diwali celebration,” said Head of Sapalis, IITR, GC Kysk, who led the research.
“PM2.5 is a dangerous pollutant that is not easily preferred and can remain in the air for about a week that is dangerous for public health, therefore, people must take precautions,” he added.
