New Delhi: Former Congress Head Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday demanded that the government provide credible data about Covid’s death in the country and pay compensation for each RS four lakh by their families who lost their lives because of Coronavirus.
Gandhi shares videos where the family, who lost loved ones because Covid in Gujarat, alleged that they did not receive timely assistance from the government.
He also attacked the “Gujarat model” which has been projected by BJP as the best in this country.
“The Congress has two demands that the credible data on Covid’s death was disclosed and the compensation of RS four lakh was given to their families who lost their relatives because of Covid-19.
The government must relieve the pain of people and they must get compensation,” he said in a tweet In Hindi, using the hashtag “# 4lakhdenahoga”.
In a 4.31 minute video as part of the “Congress Campaign Nyay”, Gandhi said the gujarat model was talked about, but the families they spoke to say that during Covid times they did not have a hospital bed or ventilator.
“When you have to help them in the hospital, you are not there and when they lose Rs 10-15 lakh in hospitals and also members of their family, you still don’t exist to provide compensation.
What kind of government is this,” he was asked.
Gandhi said while the Government Gujarat claimed that only 10,000 people who died of Covid, the truth was that three lakh people had died of Covid.
He claimed that Congress workers had returned home to ensure this.
“The official said 10,000 people died of Covid, but the truth was three lakh,” he said.
He said in the Gujarat model today, only RS 50,000 was paid as compensation to people who lost their relatives because of Covid, while they had to get the three lakh Hospital each.
“Prime Minister has Rs 8,500 Crore to buy new aircraft, but the government does not have money to pay compensation to those who lose their family members because Covid,” he said.
Gandhi said the Congress wants the government to pay compensation for RS four lakh to all the lakh people who died because Covid in the country.
“Some of the elected industries were handed over to the country and had provided assistance in Lakh Crore tax during Covid periods, but poor people in India were not paid compensation for Covid’s death,” he thought.
“The Congress will put pressure on the government and will ensure the compensation of RS four Lakh each is paid to all poor families who lost their relatives because of Covid,” Gandhi said in the video.
Congress has increased his campaign against BJP in Gujarat, who went to poll at the end of next year.
