Bhubaneswar: The crime branch has banned the storage of explosives at the police station and senior police officers directed at the district to conduct a shop safety audit (Malkhanas) from police stations throughout the state.
Circular in this case was sent on Thursday after a large number of confiscated crackers stored in the Balanga police station warehouse in Puri Regency exploded on Tuesday, causing severe damage to the building.
Although there were no injuries or victims reported, the handling of confiscated crackers and explosive materials at the police station came with questions.
“We have sent round to DCPs in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack and SPS in the district to ensure safe custody of crackers, explosives, and other substances that are very flammable in the police station, Malkhanas,” said Director General of Police (Crime Branch) Sanjeeb Panda (branch).
Panda said DCPS and SPS had been asked to squeeze staff at the police station not to store crackers and other flammable substances in Malkhanas.
In a state of unavoidable where there is a need to store crackers in Malkhanas, staff from police stations must immediately consult with bomb disposal experts, relieve / destroy crackers and take necessary prevention measures.
Permissions must be obtained from the courts concerned before the destruction of crackers.
“For staff safety and visitors at the police station, it is very important to take precautions and follow the safety standards while keeping articles confiscated, especially the ingredients that explode and corrosive in the warehouse,” Circular said.
