PANAJI: Statistics issued by the National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB) for 2021 has revealed that crimes committed by foreigners in Goa are almost eight times the number of crimes committed to them.
The country recorded 11 cases of crime against foreigners last year, compared with 80 cases of violations committed by them.
NCRB said that there was a decrease in crime both by and against foreigners.
Bureau said that a total of 127 cases of crime against foreigners had been reported in all countries, and that 1,754 cases of foreigners were involved in crimes in 2019, 21 cases of crime against foreigners reported, compared with 110 cases of violations committed by them.
In Goa, Russia and Nigeria are mostly involved in narcotics cases.
The police said that because of a pandemic, there were foreign arrivals that could be ignored and that was the reason behind lower statistics.
The state government recently opened a detention center in Mapapa.
