Ahmedabad: In 2020, with a covid pandemic hitting and subsequent locking, a criminal case in Gujarat doubled to 3.81 lakh cases under the Indian Criminal Code (IPC), compared to 2019 where 1.39 lakh cases were reported.
According to the numbers of the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), Gujarat had a level of leasing the highest charge at 97.1% by 2020 which was the highest among States and the United States throughout the country.
Senior police officers said criminal violations surged in 2020 because of strict police actions during locking between March and June and then at night at night.
“Apart from the criminal offense regularly under the IPC, the year that was beaten by Covid witnessed the maximum case under the IPC 188 section (disobedience to notifications announced in a way issued by government servants), 269 (negligatory or illegal actions of the law would likely spread dangerous diseases ) and 270 (malignant actions likely to spread dangerous diseases), “the officer said, adding that these additional cases related to Covid had increased the number of campfires in the state.
According to NCRB data, there are around 2.27 cases of lakh only below the IPC 188 section (notification violations issued by public servants), which means that other cases under the IPC are not as many years before.
Apart from this, the number of murder cases was 982 in 2020, a slight decline from 993 cases in 2019.
The number of trial of murder cases increased from 910 in 2019 to 933 in 2033, pointing to greater years, an officer said police.
In road related cases, hit-and-run violations increased from 966 in 2019 to 1.022 in 2020.
The police linked this to the Covid-19 pandemic as a vehicle movement was limited to most of the time, which increased profusely and simultaneous incidents rushed to deadlines.
In crime against women, the stalkers and violations of voyeurism increased according to NCRB data.
