Bengaluru: National key for more than two months and significant restrictions for several weeks after seeing overall crimes against women in 2020 swimming by 8% both in carnataka and nationally, even when several countries reported a surge.
The latest crime data released by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) showed nationally, crimes against women fell to around 3.7 lakh cases last year compared to more than 4 cases of lakh in 2019.
Likewise, cases in Karnataka reached 12,828 in 2020 compared to 13,828 years before that.
The majority of crimes against women under the IPC are listed under ‘cruelty by the husband or relatives’ (30.0%) followed by ‘attacks on women with the intention of being angry at its courtesy’ (23.0%), ‘kidnapping and kidnapping women’ ( 16.8%)) and ‘rape’ (7.5%).
Data shows that as many as 226 women are victims of rape and murder throughout India.
Uttar Pradesh (above) topped the table with 31 cases and was attended by Madhya Pradesh (27 cases), Assam (26), Maharashtra (20), Odisha (seven) and Karnataka (seven).
Similarly, 7,045 women died in cases related to dowry harassment – 2,302 above alone – with Bihar (1,047 cases), Madhya Pradesh (627), Rajasthan (480) and Karnataka (178) among the upper states.
A total of 104 women were kidnapped and killed again by registering most cases (58), followed by Bihar and Jharkhand (respectively).
Karnataka recorded zero cases of kidnapping and female murder.

1,420 people in Karnataka were killed in 2020 compared to 1,392 in the previous year.
Efforts to kill cases increased to 3,498 from 3,148.
The state reported 2,122 kidnapping, including 48 for ransom, by 2020 compared to 2,894 cases in 2019, including 52 carried out for ransom.
There were no real changes in the number of rape: 2020 saw 507 compared to 508 in the previous year.
The robbery case was dipped from 1,865 in 2019 to 1,383 in 2020, while home theft was reduced from 5,157 to 4,191.
And, the cheating case was dipped from 5,495 to 4,043.
