New Delhi: Minister of Finance Nirmala Sitharaman on Friday said the government has carried out sovereign rights of tax profits from transactions in the cryptocurrency and questions about the prohibition or not prohibited will be taken after input from consultation.
“I don’t do anything to legalize or forbid it or not legalize, whatever at this stage,” he told the hospital.
Sitharaman said, “Banning or not a ban will come next when the consultation gives me input.
But then you prefer to give me taxes and let the profit be there and then tell me that I haven’t even taken corrective action? It’s not a different question .
But I would impose a tax because it is a sovereign right.
“He answered questions from Congress MP Chhaya Verma about this issue during the discussion on the Union budget.

The Governor of the Bank of India (RBI) on Thursday said the Cryptocurrency Private currency was a threat to the stability of the macroeconomic economy and the country’s finances and damaged the ability of the central bank to deal with two important problems and warned investors that they invested with their own risk.

Against the opposition allegations about inflation, he said despite the supply side disorder, retail inflation is now at 6.2% compared to 9.1% during the appropriate working period.
He, however, admitted that the government consciously needed to do more on the ground.
