Kolkata: Calcutta University has directed several universities to increase the number of seats in undergraduate courses to accommodate the high candidates who passed the class XII this year.
While the percentage of pass has increased in the ISC and CBSE XII class, 100% of students who take higher middle marked marks.
Some universities have been told by Cu to apply for a chair increase in several departments is Maulana Azad, Scottish Church, Asutosh and Goenka.
But they have not received formal sanctions.
Given the application of the application, Cu is considering the increase in seats in more institutions, especially in the department sought, so that students have not had to struggle to get chairs.
“Yes, we have increased the UG seat in many colleges.
We will go through the application and will give permission to more colleges to add seats so that students who have passed class XII do not have to struggle with entry,” said Asis Kumar Chatttopadhyay, Pro- Vice-chancellor for academic business, Cu.
Colleges often say that in some departments, they have too few seats to accommodate even a small portion of applicants.
This year, when a record of a number of students passed the class XII, Cu approached several assembled institutes to submit applications to add more seats in several departments.
Maulana Azad Principal Subhasis Dutta confirmed that they had applied for more seats, after receiving instructions from the university.
“We have registered in 2019 but it didn’t happen.
A few days ago, we received a message from the university, asking us to register so the number of seats could be improved and we did it.
We haven’t got a formal vacation,” Dutta said.
The Scottish Church is also among the universities that have been applied to increase seats.
“We apply for more seats after a university decision,” Madhumanjari Mandal said, the principal.
Bethune College has not entered the increase in number of seats even though there has been high demand for subjects, such as zoology, physics, chemistry and computer science.
“These are all science subjects with lab-based jobs.
Applying more seats in this subject will put pressure on our existing infrastructure,” Krishna Roy said, the principal at Bethune College.
Both University of Jadavpur and University Presidences, which are also referred to as unity unity, have no plans to increase their seats at the beginning of the reception process, but the application volume solely surprised it.
“Initially, we have no plans like that, but we will discuss this issue after all the applications enter,” said an official at Jadavpur University.
