Kolkata: Calcutta University conducted a test selection for the University of Calcutta sports team for the 2021-22 session, making it the first largest non-academic event involving universities since the pandemics broke out.
It shows that educational institutions in the city are gradually looking to return to some kind of normality, to the world we have ever known before the pandemic.
Trials in various disciplines, such as hockey, cricket, handball, boxing, judo, archery, water polo, athletics, wrestling, shooting, karate and swimming, starting on Friday and selection will be made for the team of men and women soon.
The selected team that represents Cu will compete with teams from other universities in the tournament organized by the University Association held from next week.
Calcutta University has invited students from all of its affiliated colleges to participate in the trial but have not forgotten the appropriate actions of Covid.
To ensure security, the authorities have made it mandatory for participants to be fully vaccinated and that they must follow all the right norms of the Covid set by the government.
Authorities expect good compensation.
“This is a two-level tournament.
The team first will play at the East Zone level and if they qualify, they will go further,” said Aminul Hoque, sport at the University of Calcutta.
If there are participating colleges cannot send their teams to one of the events, he must notify the previous university for the right reason for the withdrawal of the competition, said an official said.
After the Institute was reopened, students and teachers involved in academic and non-academic activities were a positive sign, especially in the post-pandemic world, said an official.
“Sports are an integral part of the campus life, but it has stopped completely since the novel Coronavirus pandemis broke.
It is relief to see students and teachers return to the playground with all preventive measures,” said a university official.
