A 50-year-old woman was given two doses of Covid-19 vaccine in a few minutes during a vaccination trip at the Primary Health Center in Pennadam, Cuddalore on Monday.
The woman, who complained of headaches and body pain after getting a double jab, had been stored under medical observation at the same facility.
Deputy Director of Cuddalore (Health) R Meerera confirmed it was a mistake.
“A nurse of the staff posted in the center gave a vaccine to the woman.
The assistant, a pharmacist, is busy coating other people.
The nurse gives drugs to those who get Jab.
The woman, who got a vaccine, did not move, and remained in the chair.
The nurse returned and gave him another Jab, thinking it was another person who was waiting for a shot, “the official said.
Both nurses and women, who have now walked out of the room, realized the mistake until someone else in the queue told the nurse what had happened.
Nurses arrived at the woman who would go and asked him to stay back.
“The patient complains of headaches and body aches.
Blood pressure and normal oxygen saturation.
District program officers have asked questions and submitting a report.
The woman will undergo a 24-hour observation,” said Meerera.
A doctor said it was a rare incident and the effect could not be expected immediately.
Dr.
N G Rajesh, a professor of pathology at Jawaharlal Institute of Post-Postgraduate Medical Education, said he did not know the existence of scientific literature about the double-dose effect.
“There is nothing to worry about, but the patient must remain silent,” he said.
