CHENNAI/ERODE: Cutting caste, politics and religion, volunteers of Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam (TMMK) maintained humankind by providing a dignified burial to people who perished of Covid-19.
They conducted the last rites according to the wishes and habits of their families of the deceased.
In the very first burial after ICMR protocol for Covid-19in Saidapet at Vellore this past year into the burial of 45 year old Anitha, of Upparapalli village at Vellore district Tuesday, the 4,000-odd volunteers of this TMMK have consistently come forward to execute the last rites of this Covid-19 victims.
By April 1 to May 25, they had been buried 2,064 throughout the country according to Covid-19 protocol.
During the very first wave this past year, they murdered and cremated 1,350 men and women in the nation.
“Stress of contracting the virus retains back crematorium employees.
Therefore, we volunteer to provide a dignified burial to the dead,” stated Ms S Nizhamuddin, manager of their TMMK’s volunteers at Gudiyattam.
For all those who belonging to the economically weaker area, the TMMK manages expenses, such as transport of the human body in the hospital into the burial earth, along with other funeral costs.
Since households can’t bid a proper farewell, the volunteers attempt to adhere to the habits that provides the last travel an individual touch.
“Since most households ask us to carry out certain rituals according to their faith, we attempt to follow along,” explained TMMK nation secretary J Eajaz Ahmed, who’s become knowledgeable about the habits of Hindus and Christians.
The anxiety of this virus is that relatives also occasionally shy away from providing an appropriate burial.
On May 25in Erode, once a Hindu household refused to execute the last rites formalities to get a covid-19 suspected individual, four of the Muslim neighbors donned PPE kits and completed the rites on behalf of their household .
P Selvaraj, 42, of Erukalur village nearby Nambiyur at Gobichettipalayam taluk expired after suffering from fever and cold for a week.
He’d been in the home and was taking pills out of a neighborhood medical store.
“His condition deteriorated and that he fought to breath,” explained N Mohammed Isak, a neighbor who helped bury Selvaraj.
Following his passing, Selvaraj’s his wife along with his 16-year-old son denied to spoil Selvarj dreading Covid-19 disease.
As the news spread, Mohammed Isak, K Nasrullah Khan, A Abdul Shakeem and S Mohammed came to execute the Last rites on behalf of their household.
“We conducted the last rites as guided by Selvaraj’s loved ones because we think everyone deserves to proceed with dignity,” said Mohammed Isak.
