Rajkot: With the authorities close as many as 70 illegal cuts, the number of livestock deaths on Jalan Raya Gandhidham-Samakhiasi witnessed a steep reduction of welcome.
The process of closing of illegal cuts began in October last year.
In accordance with official figures, a total of 91 livestock fatalities are recorded from October 2019 to October 2020 on the Gandhidham-Samakhali highway.
Thanks to the closure of illegal cuts, this year’s death rate dropped to 20 in the appropriate period.
Busy traffic is a regular feature at 56 km of six Lane Gandhidhial-Samakhiali Highway because it connects the deendayal port in Kandla to Port Mundra.
Most of the 70,000 vehicles passed on the highway were large trucks.
“The villagers conducted illegal cuts on the highway which resulted in animal death due to heavy vehicle movements.
We have closed this piece and if anyone reopens, we will file a shot upon them,” said Superintendent Kutch (Timur) Patil.
The closure of illegal cutting was carried out under police protection and L & T Company Limited, who also managed this road, did work.
The villagers made illegal injuries on the highway to make shortcuts.
Also, the owner of the streets of ‘Dhabas’ and gas stations also make illegal cuts.
Other pet cows and animals deviate on the highway because of this cutting, and many are trimmed by heavy vehicles.
Prakash nayak, head of this highway project, said that almost no human death was reported because the vehicle hit animals.
“When a truck hit livestock, the driver was hardly injured while animals surrendered in the injury most of the time.
We want to reduce the fatality of this livestock which is not reported,” said Nayak.
