Nagpur: Cyber Crooks who have a free run during locking in 2020 did not feel similar success by 2021 when citizens did not depend on online media and could access the company and restrictions subsided.
Call it the success of cyber cells that enhance their public awareness programs or bitter experiences that make people more vigilant, complaints related to cyberspace crimes fell 23% by 2021 compared to 2020 when citizens were forced to stay at home because of strict locking.
In accordance with global studies, locking forces people to spend more time on the internet and often use online transactions, which also causes an increase in violating violations of cyberspace.
According to the statistics available from cyber cells, there are 3,365 complaints in 2021 compared to 4,234 in 2020.
In 2018, there were 1,824 complaints that increased to 3,023 in 2019.
According to ASST PI Keshav Wagh of Cyber Cell, Nagpur City Police, Who works under the supervision of ADDL CP Sunil Phulieri and DCP Chetna Tidke, awareness camps are held at 40 educational institutions, 19 NGO offices and others.
There are 17 interactive sessions and two through broadcast media.
“Many webinars and seminars are held to create awareness about the latest cyber operandi mode, how to remain safe and other social media behavior and ethics,” Wagh said added that citizens were returned by them.
In accordance with Wagh, Cyber Cell has managed to remove as many as 1,431 complaints from 2021.
In about 174 cases, the complainants received lost amounts and restored in bank accounts, including two from abroad.
Cyber cells play a major role in some crucial cases of murder, kidnapping and other forgery cases.
Cells managed to extract cellphone details in some sensitive cases including an episode of elopement which almost led to communal disharmony but the police prevented it by saving a girl.
In the case of the killing of senior citizens by his grandson, Cyber cells helped police detect cases with the help of crucial data extraction from cellphones accused by accusers.
