Bhubaneswar: Deogarh District Entrepreneurs lost more than Rs 30 lakh to cyber fraudsters, who cheated him with the pretext of installing Jio’s cellphone towers in his property.
The cyber police station from the branch of the State Crime in Cuttack has started an investigation after the complaint submitted by Sanjay Kumar Dalabehera, the victim, recently.
Dalabehera received an anonymous call on November 6, 2019 where the caller introduced himself as the Senior Executive Reliance Jio.
The caller asked if Dalabehera had about 400 square meters and lured it by promising big money if he gave the land rent to set up a cellphone tower.
Dalabehera confirmed the interest when fraudsters convinced him to get RS 15 Lakh Lumpsum rent and offered a job to one of his family members with Reliance Jio.
The anonymous caller asked Dalabehera to send land documents (cellular tower sites), aadhaar cards, PAN cards and their bank accounts.
The Conman asked Dalabehera to pay an advance of Rs 10,000 to get a commercial license to prepare a cellular tower.
Without verifying caller credentials, Dalabehera pays Rs 10,000 on November 7, 2019.
Next, cyber criminals continue to demand money from registration fees, tender archiving, tender permissions, billing costs, billing costs, attachment fees, transportation costs, covid costs, taxes, tax income and GST costs.
Strangely, a Dalabehera who is not suspicious fulfills their instructions at any time.
“The victim did not see the caller or met him for a business agreement.
But he transferred Rs 30.47 lakh on a different date for several bank accounts distributed by the defendant.
After realizing that he was deceived, he filed a complaint to us,” said an office officer Cyber police.
During the accounts and verification of the recipient’s bank account, the police had learned that the defendant belonged to Assam and West Bengal.
The police said efforts were identifying the defendant.
In July this year, Jagatpur police in Cuttack arrested two people from Kolkata for allegedly deceiving a businessman Rs 39 Lakh with his luring him to establish a Jio Mobile tower on his land.
