Cybersecurity work: Why is it so few women?

Mumbai: With Cybercrime on a rise since the pandemic, talent requests related to cyberspace have increased substantially.
There has been a 25% increase in demand for talent in cyberspace with an annual basis since broken pandemics.
Industry experts say there is a war for talent in this segment and, according to Teamlease services, India is estimated to have more than 1.5 million jobs that are not fulfilled in Cybersecurity in 2025.
However, even when the organization scrambles to fill vacancies, usually from college High techniques, usually, there are big parts missing in pie: women.
The percentage of women in cyberspace is very low at this time.
TeamLease Services Co-Founder & Executive VP, Rituparna Chakraborty, said the Indian Cybersecurity industry grew fast and demand for skilled workers in this space has increased.
But, he said, estimates that have been made for women are only around 11% of the Sector Manpower in 2025.
It turns out that the organization looks for talents where they will not be too many female candidates, namely, in the field of college engineering.
The rate of change in cyberspace encourages several organizations to see diversity employing from graduate college.
They take into account the diversity needed to solve complex cyber challenges, considering the level in which cyber crime grows.
Deloitte India Partners Deepa Seshadri said, although the organization saw cyber because of the related technology, Cybersecurity was more than business problems.
“Seeing the level in which cyberattack occurs, it has an inherent human element, which is also the weakest link in the chain.
Thus, the recruitment strategy needs to be different.
When a company employs for cyber, they are usually looking for someone with a background of the engineering.
It’s biased Not realized.
For the type of data and privacy problems, professional HR will also be suitable for such roles, “said Seshadri.
The way in which cyber develops, no matter how skilled someone is at first, they need to be made a reskilled and enhanced all the time.
That is the reason why diverse candidates are encouraged to enter this room.
“Diversity can help solve complex problems because, by definition, diversity brings a different perspective,” said Seshadri.
The number of women in college engineering is currently still low.
Seshadri said the company encouraged organizations to recruit other graduate colleges to ensure diversity employ in cyberspace.
Deloitte has a ‘woman in cyber’ program with the aim of having a diverse talent pool as part of her sarber power.
The company focuses on introducing a cyber curriculum in non-engineering colleges as well.
“In the past 3 months, our recruitment in cyberspace has become 23% BSC / MSc / BCOM / MCA, and 77% BE / BTECH / MTECH.
Previously, the number was tilted mostly towards BE / BTECH,” said Seshadri.
He believes this sector requires additional women’s role models that can attract interest, interesting and motivate more women professionals to take jobs at Cybersecurity.
Akamai India MD & VP Prasad Mandava said hire solely from college engineering may not be the best answer because many Siber security practitioners will be taught themselves or will be increased through various online platforms, and hence the recruitment of diversity into game-changer.
“Innovation is only possible when various perspectives and collective-tipped experiences to make good ideas.
This is a variety of these important ideas.
To bridge the talent gap, we as industry must think differently and create opportunities to build a talent that is not only skilled But it also varies, “said Mandava.
Shiksha, Cybersecurity expert program by the Indian Data Security Council (DSCI), is doing a bit through an exclusive program for women who want to pay themselves in Siber’s security.
Chakraborty said it would be much easier for women who were in the role of seniors and returned to work after a break from their professional career to Pivot to Cybersecurity.
According to Cybersecurity skills reports by DSCI & Futureskills Prime (Meity-Nasscom Digital Willing Initiative), there are more than 50,000 open jobs in the cybersecurity room.
The increase in cybersecurity is one of the priorities for 74% of the organization in 2021, according to Teamlease services.
Indian Cybersecurity power is likely to be 9% more than the global average.
