Panaji: When the fuel price continues to burn a hole in everyone’s pocket, four men have decided to cycle along 6,800 km along the coastline of India with a simple message ‘burning fat not fuel’ while also documenting plastic and sea pollution rates.
LED by 56 years Veteran Naval Millind Tambe, four cyclists will pedder nine countries in their efforts to promote sustainable trips.
The expedition began on Sunday with two drivers who pushed from the Capital City of Goa with other motorists joining various stages of Indian beach cycling expeditions.
During the next 101 days, cyclists will cross Karnataka and Kerala until they hit Kankumumari for the termination of their first major department.
The next major stop will be in Visakhapatnam until they push to Kolkata.
From there, they would be their cycle courier to Gujarat and took a trail from Bhuj.
“The first goal is to promote sustainable trips.
That’s why our tags burn fat, not fuel.
We want to promote sustainable trips,” Tambe said.
The second goal of the entire team is monitoring plastic pollution along the coast.
“So basically we will map the beach wherever we find them too polluted.
We will see what kind of plastic pollutants are,” Tambe said.
He joined the 49-year-old Pune Resident Shriram Kondhawekar.
Two other cyclists were 43 years old Mandar and 30-year-old software designer Aakash Sinha.
The Ministry of Unity Sports and Young Life has recognized the expedition under the Indian Fit Movement.
The ministry has asked the quartet to promote the concept of fitness.
The four cyclists were part of the photography club and met in December 2020 during a visit to Brahma Tal in Uttarakhand, where they decided to cycle along the country’s coastline.
Earlier this year, Tambe and Sinha tested their determination by cycling from Mumbai to Goa.
“The experience will be much richer than what is in the first leg, and we are looking forward to it,” Tambe said.
Along the way, they will throw their tents wherever they might or live in their local host’s house while also doing some sightseeing.
“We want to take pictures of each light house as well as possible.
During the entire expedition, we look forward to mapping the lighthouse, we may not be able to map several for security reasons, but wherever we can, we will take their respective photos and everyone we meet, “said Kondhawekar.
The expedition was marked by the commander of 2 Sal Sawney Signal Training Center and Police Supervisory (North) Shobhit Saxena.
