GUWAHATI: The Met office has cautioned that there may be heavy rain in areas of West Assam and Meghalaya on Wednesday under the effects of cyclone Yaas from the Bay of Bengal. The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) of the India Meteorological Department has issued a’orange’ warning to Assam and Meghalaya, requesting both countries to be ready to confront some effects of this cyclone. The RMC on Tuesday afternoon issued predictions of mild to moderate rain at most areas with heavy to very heavy rain in isolated locations in the 2 states. Thunderstorms, followed closely by radar, in isolated locations also have been called in Assam and Meghalaya. The remaining populous countries would have diminished effect, although the Met office failed to eliminate the weak effect of Yaas from Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura. A Met office announcement notice that as a consequence of thunderstorms and lightning, strong surface winds can cause minor harm to farm, horticulture and standing plants in a number of the populous countries. There are chances of harm to exposed structures because of gusty winds as well as an advisory was issued to remain inside. Heavy to very heavy rain over Assam and Meghalaya can influence localized flooding of streets and water logging in low lying regions. The Met office cautioned of minor harm to kutcha road and localized landslides from both adjoining countries which will truly feel the effects of Yaas over every other populous country. In Arunachal Pradesh, mild to medium rain at several areas with heavy rain in isolated areas will be expected on Wednesday. Thunderstorms and lightning in remote areas will also be on the cards. Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura might escape the anger of this cyclone, as just mild to moderate rain at many areas is called by IMD in these nations. Thunderstorms and lightning in remote places can happen , also. The IMD on Tuesday afternoon said that the intense cyclonic storm Yaas is extremely likely to transfer north-northwestwards, intensifying farther into a really severe cyclonic storm in another 12 hours. “It might continue to maneuver north-northwestwards, intensify further and attain Northwest Bay of Bengal near north Odisha and West Bengal coasts really near Chandbali-Dhamra port from the first morning of Wednesday, May 26.
