Nicosia: Cyprus on Friday said children aged 12 to 15 will be included in mass inoculation programs to curb the spread of Covid-19, because of tightening regulations for access to public areas.
The island has experienced an aggressive surge caused by a highly contagious Delta variant of the virus that began manifesting in mid-June.
Cyprus has recorded 416 deaths from Coronavirus since March 2020 and 100,784 infections.
“The only way we can stop the emergence of new aggressive strains (from Covid-19) is vaccination,” Minister of Health, Michalis Hadjipantelas, said in a statement.
Children will be eligible for vaccines using MRNA technology produced by Pfizer / Biontech and Modera, and only with the approval of parents, said Hadjipantelas.
This size comes into force on 2.
August.
Data issued by the Ministry of Health previously said that new infections have shown a decline in the past two weeks, with the average age of people affected by the Delta variant and vaccine doubt between parts of the population is’ two very high obstacles threatening public health ‘, said Hadjipantteen.
The authorities also tighten the existing requirements that people display what is called ‘SafePass’ of vaccination or negative tests to access public areas where at least 10 people gather.
Previous requirements are for 20 people.
About 65% of the population has completed their vaccination program.
