Daily Covid-19 cases recorded in the country remained under 1 lakh and deaths from the virus below 2,000 for the second day running although, as on the previous day, testing remained relatively low.
India recorded 92,712 fresh Covid-19 cases, a marginal increase from Monday’s count of 86,161.
The daily tally had dipped below 1 lakh on Monday after 63 days.
The daily death toll dipped to 1,815 on Monday, a slight dip from 1,867 reported a day earlier.
The toll on both days does not include the older deaths confirmed by Maharashtra as part of an ongoing data reconciliation process in the state that has been continuing almost daily for more than three weeks now.
On Tuesday, the state declared 407 “old deaths” while the day’s toll was 295.
Testing remained low for the second straight day as around 18.7 lakh tests for the virus were done on Monday, just a slight increase from the previous day’s count of 15.9 lakh.
As a result, the test positivity rate remained close to 5% at 4.9%.
It was 5.4% on Monday.
The dip in fatalities on Monday was mainly due to a sharp drop in the daily toll in Karnataka and Kerala.Karnataka reported 179 fatalities.
The daily toll in Kerala dipped to 124.
On Tuesday, Tamil Nadu recorded 18,023 cases and 409 fatalities, the highest case count and toll in the country.
