Daily green challenges to promote nutritious diets

Mangaluru: Leaighting green vegetables are an important part of a healthy diet.
In an effort to promote consumption, Mamama Rai, President, Kadike Trust, who worked for the resurrection of Udupi Sarees, had launched a campaign called Daily Green Challenge.
On social media, Mamama has introduced several edible vegetables along with recipes for several days.
Mamama told Tii, “I finished 25 days after the challenge on Sunday.
This is an effort to spread awareness about edible wild vegetables that can be planted easily and under any climate conditions.
For many people, vegetables only mean eating spinach , Methi or coriander leaves purchased from the market.
The challenge is to use leaves planted in the home garden every day, “he said.
Mamama wants to take this as a challenge for a long time, and introduce people to various kinds of vegetables that can be planted even in limited space naturally.
“I live in a rental premise and have fostered green vegetables in pots.
Five years ago, we have documented more than 100 green vegetables from our garden.
I plan to write around 30 leaves and recipes and then rest due to the workload of the Saree Saree Awakening project, “He said.
He shared details including the scientific name of the leaf, common names in Kannada and England as well as recipes for dishes cooked at home with pictures to support them.
Some of the leaves introduced and recipes distributed include Rasam from Peperomia Pelucida, Chutney from Brahmi leaves, aromatic rice by cooking Rasana leaves, juice uses Indian moon plant leaves, curry (PALYA) by cooking black nightshade leaves with Pea Merpati, MINTIN MIND DAIN and Pakoda onion and more.
He also wrote about the benefits of leaves.
All details are distributed on the social media platform and also among weavers.
“The response has been positive so far.
While adding nutrition into a diet is the need for hours, these changes are needed in the midst of the climate crisis because most of these leaves grow from the climate tolerant plants.
Also, the waste kitchen and gray water can be transferred to this house garden .
After I finished 30 days, I would probably rest and return with more easily eaten vegetables after some time, “said Mamatha, who has been vegan for the past six years and has given a preference to the environment-based diet for environmental reasons.
