Daimler aims to be ready for all-electric car markets in 2030

LONDON: Maker Mercedes-Benz Daimler plans to invest more than 40 billion euros ($ 47 billion) between 2022 and 2030 to develop battery electric vehicles (EV), and are ready for the car market all electricity at the end of that period.
Outlining the strategy for the future of electricity, German luxury car makers said on Thursday it would, with partners, building eight battery plants because it increased EV production, and that of the 2025 all new vehicle platforms would only make electric cars only make electric cars.
“We really want to go for it …
and dominantly, if not all electricity, at the end of the decade,” said Chief Executive Ola Kangleius told Reuters, adding that spending on traditional combustion engine technology would be “close to zero” in the year 2025.
However, Daimler stopped giving a hard deadline to end the sale of fossil fuel cars.
Some car makers such as Geely’s Volvo car are committed to going all electricity in 2030, while General Motors Co said he aspires fully electricity in 2035.
“We need to move the debate from when you build the last combustion engine because it is irrelevant,” Källenius said.
“The question is how fast you can masculate to almost 100% electricity and that’s what we focus on.” Daimler’s announcement came more than a week after the European Union proposed a ban on the effective sale of gasoline and diesel cars from 2035, aimed at accelerating the switch to EV Zero-emissions as part of a broad global warming to combat global warming.
Towards the UE announcement, the car maker has announced a series of large investments in EV.
Earlier this month, Steellantis said he would invest more than 30 billion euros in 2025 in his electrification line-up.
Daimler said that in 2025, he expected electric and hybrid electric cars to make 50% of sales, earlier than the previous forecast that this would occur in 2030.
Carmaker would reveal three electric platforms – one to cover the ranks of the passenger cars and SUVs, One for van and one for high-performance vehicles – which will be launched in 2025.
Daimler also acquired a limited British company to help develop high-performance electric motors.
The company said it would build 200 gigawatt hours (GWh) battery cell capacity.
Four of their new battery plants will be in Europe and one in the United States.
Daimler said he would announce a new European partner for the battery production plan immediately.
The EU has tried hard to build battery capacity to fight China’s dominance on battery production.
Volkswagen AG rivals plan to build half a dozen battery cell plants in Europe.
Daimler said that as part of his electrification strategy, he would build a battery recycling plant in Kuppenheim, Germany, which will start operating in 2023.
Car stocks traded slightly more than 1% after the announcement.
