Dam in Gujarat registered 21% increase in storage

Ahmedabad: While the Sarovar Dam Sardar received water to 12% of the storage capacity in 21 days, as on September 6, 26 other dams increased its storage by 26% over the same period.
Overall, the state dam including Sardar Sarovar registered a 21% increase.
Officials in the irrigation department said that the maximum increase in storage was in Central Gujarat where 17 dams saw a 40% increase in storage between September 6 and 27 September.
Previous storage was 1,159 MCM which recorded 1,961 mcm storage.
Gujarat was followed by Saurashtra who saw a 39% increase in water storage.
Irrigation officials said that the lowest storage was in the Kutch area where 20 dams only had 23% of storage followed by 24% in 15 dams in the North Gujarat region.
The number of overall dam that is almost full or has more than 90% of storage has increased from 8 to 93 taking into account the irrigation project of all sizes.
Officials said the data was mainly from a large dam and there were many dam checks on the river which was also full.
Furthermore, officials said that water in Narmada Dam had increased by almost 770 cusecs and the current level was at 124.47 meters.
The dam has a flow of more than 48,000 cusecs that will produce further increase on the surface of the water.
Among the main dams, there are eight dams that have more than 90% of storage and overflow.
