The Deputy Commissioner of the Umashankar Police Dash said the gang involving both and their colleagues stole at least 36 cellphone numbers of vanity and digitally transferred the numbers to others without the knowledge of the original customers who had paid premium.
The police are also investigating if stolen numbers are used to make original user bank fraud.
Dash said this is a kind of unique fraud with his origin in Bhubaneswar.

They activated it by uploading fake documents such as Aadhar, PAN and driving SIM through a Lapu number.
Dash says fraudsters use a simple tool available online to prepare different false identity evidence.
