Ahmedabad: Chairperson of the City Planning Committee and Estate Management Corporation Ahmedabad, who decided to remove a non-vegetarian food cart from general sights Tuesday, did not know about the number of food carts operating in the city, whether the cart was legal or illegal or if they sold vegetarian food or non-vegetarian.
On Monday, the AMC City Planning Committee decided to launch a broad drive to remove all carts selling non-vegetarian food from public roads.
The AMC’s decision came after the Mayor of Rajkot and Vadodara announced a similar decision a few days ago.
“All non-vegetarian food carts will be removed from all public roads, those operating near schools and colleges, religious places, wedding spaces and community rooms starting from November 16 Tuesday,” Devang Dani, Chair of the Planning and Housing Management Committee AMC.
When asked how many illegal or legal carts, non-vegetarians or vegetarians operating on the road, he did not have an answer.
“We will conduct a survey,” he said.
