The new US Open Champion Daniel Medvedev and Greece Stefanos Tsitipas has joined Novak Djokovic at the top at the qualification for the ATP final which ended in the season, the man’s tour said on Monday.
Medvedev became the latest winner of the latest on Sunday when he ended Djokovic’s search for the 21st Primary Title Record which would help Serbia the first person to complete the Grand Slam calendar year in 52 years.
The ATP final was played between eight top men’s single players and a double team, and Russia won the season final in 2020, when the last tournament was held in London before moving to Turin in Italy.
“I hope to try and defend my title in Turin,” Medvedev said in ATP’s statement.
“Italian fans are very excited, I’m sure it will be a good event.” Djokovic has won the final five times in the past and became the first player to qualify for this year’s event when he tied Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal for the 20-main title men’s record with his Wimbledon victory.
The world number two Tsitipas is also a former ATP final champion and won the title in 2019.
“Very pleasant to qualify for Turin so early, I can’t wait to play there,” said Tsitipas, who has won a 50-matched tour in the 2021 season.
Fourth rank Alexander Zverev, Russia Andrey Rublev and Italy Matteo Berrettini next to qualify for the November 14-21 event.
Wimbledon and the Nikola Mektic Olympic champion and the Croatian Pavian couple also sealed their place in doubles.
They joined a pair of US Open US winners American Rajeev RAM and Joe Salisbury and Jois French Open Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Mahut.
