New Delhi: Danish Siddiqui’s body, journalist Prizewinning Pulitzer who was killed in Afghanistan last month, was very mutilated while in Taliban custody, officials said.
Wahyu came amid fears that the battle in Afghanistan became increasingly brutal because peace talks stopped.
Siddiqui, 38, was killed when the Afghan command accompanied to spin Boldak was ambushed.
The initial photos of the scene showed their bodies with many wounds but were entirely intact.
But when the body was transferred to the hospital in Kandahar, it had been poorly mutilated, according to two Indian officials and two Afghanists there.
NYT reviewed several photos that showed Siddiqui’s body was mutilated.
An official said the body was almost a dozen bullet wounds and there were signs of tires on the face and chest of Siddiqui.
A health official in Kandahar said Siddiqui’s face could not be recognized, adding that he could not determine exactly what had been done on the body.
However, a Taliban spokesman denied any mistakes in the militant section, said they were under orders to treat the body with respect.
“Denmark always chooses to be at the forefront so that harassment and atrocities cannot stay hidden,” said Meenakshi Ganguly, director of South Asia for Human Rights Watch.
“Brutality with Taliban fighters sentenced Denmark to prove the violation he documented.”
