COPENHAGEN, Jun 4 (AP) Denmark’s Parliament on Friday voted in favor of constructing a 20-billion-kroner ($ 3.3 billion) artificial island at Copenhagen which can house at least 35,000 individuals that will be linked to downtown with a lane tube and a subway .
The acceptance of Lynetteholmen — that the proposed title for its new district — was criticised for not being researched enough the ecological impacts of its structure, among other problems.
Work is set to start in 2035 and also to be finished by 2070.
The island will probably be around 3 sq.
kilometres (1.2 square kilometers ) in size and can also serve as security against potential flood in Copenhagen as a consequence of increasing sea levels.
It’ll be constructed north of this fashionable Refshale Island, also a former industrial region, and a harbour tube is intended to be attached into the current E20 highway.
The program was introduced by the prior centre-right administration of Prime Minister Lars Loekke Rasmussen at October 2018 and was promptly accepted by the Copenhagen municipality.
The go-ahead was awarded Friday in an 85-12 vote.
