Darjeeling: Darjeeling District Administration has suggested hotels and homestays in the region to ensure tourists provide RT-PCR negative reports or double vaccination certificates before checking into their property.
In some other tourism goals in the state including Digha and santiniketan, one of the two documents has been made mandatory.
This exercise is part of the awareness and sensitivity of the District Administration campaign to limit the spread of Covid -19 after the second wave and the third wave expected.
Source in Darjeeling District Administration said the meeting was held with hotel owners, restaurants, and homestay owners and other tourist stakeholders to create awareness.
“To load the spread of Covid-19 in tourist locations, we have recommended the hotel and the homestay owner to receive bookings only after ensuring the negative status of RT-PCR (no less than 72 hours) or a double vaccination certificate of tourists,” The source said.
With relaxation in restrictions offered by the state government, tourists from Kolkata and other states have begun to reach the hill.
In the absence of district level strictures to contain the spread of the disease, there are fears that can be proven fatal.
“We continue to ask tourists who come to our hotel to provide RT-PCR reports and double vaccination certificates.
We cannot take the health risk of our staff.
However, we have not received official communication from the district administration,” said Pine Tree Resort and General Spa Manager Rajesh Rajak.
The number of active cases in the Darjeeling District will be higher and are second in the state.
