Day 1 monsoon: waterlogging in some parts of Delhi

New Delhi: The arrival of the rainy season in Delhi on Tuesday brought a long-awaited pause from high temperatures but there was an ordinary demerit too: waterlogging in various places in the city which caused crawling traffic.
Lots of water has accumulated near AIIMS flyover, Pul Prahladpur, Mundka Railroad Bridge, Ring Road, Vikas Marg and Kirari, among other places, mocking PWD claims and city corporations because of the storm water channel formed.
Preparation arrangements at the Minto Bridge proved to be sufficient, however, with this vulnerable site did not experience flooding on Tuesday.
A PWD official claimed that after being directed to ensure there was no water hole in the streets during the rain, the agency had made a complicated arrangement to handle flooding, which was tested today by heavy rain.
The second most affected site during the rain – Prahladpur Pul – continues to be a problem area and traffic must be transferred to another road.
The rainy season report from city corporation shows that the impact of rain is much heavier in South Delhi.
Report of the official Monsun Municipal Municipal South said that water complaints were received from places such as East Kailash, Munirka, Jalan Shiviya, Malviya Nagar, Asola, Vasant Kunj, Rajpur Khurd and Badargur.
Because the water occurred after rainy morning and before the nightlight of the peak night, it caused grumps and delays for many commuters.
The Civic’s body also registered four cases of logging in several places, including the RPS colony, Sheikh Sarai Phase 1, Kailash Colony, I Block Jangpura Extension and D Block Lajpat Nagar.
Two cases of damaged buildings by heavy rain have been recorded in Savitri Nagar and Hauz are typical.
A senior city official said that these spots were temporary and occurred due to very large rainfall, with flowing water later.
The monsoon report from the North Corporation stated that there were no complaints of water received from SP cities, Karol Bagh and the Keshavpuram zone, only from other places such as Mubarakpur Elementary School MC, Majlis Park, Karala and Mundka.
A citizenship official said that this was a low area and the pump was installed to clean water in several hours.
Edmc spokesman claimed that no complaints related to the rainy season had been received from the South Shahdara Zone and Shahadra.
The official Monsun report also records zero waterlogging cases, logging trees and damaged structures.
Edmc officials said that very light rain was recorded in the Trans-Yamuna area.
PWD officials said only small complaints under reported water and water were removed at such points.
They say about 147 vulnerable locations have been identified vulnerable to waterlogging.
“All the necessary settings have been made.
Field staff regularly visited these areas.
CCTV cameras have also been installed in around 20 most vulnerable locations for real time, monitoring round time to defecate,” an official insisted.
Delhi government officials said that the instructions needed have been spent for all departments concerned, including PWD and flooding & irrigation controls, to ensure that water does not collect on the streets.
Wherever defecation occurs, the road must be cleaned within 10-15 minutes, officials are instructed.
PWD has installed 1,500 pumps in vulnerable locations to get rid of water.
