Amman: The Jordanian court was to rule Monday in the trial of two former officials accused of planning a palace coup that triggered a crisis in the kingdom seen as an oasis of stability.
Former Head of the Royal Court Bassem Awadallah and a former messenger for Saudi Arabia, Sharif Hassan bin Zaid, has been charged with conspiring with Prince Hamzah to make him replace his stepbrother, King Abdullah II.
The prince himself was not tried.
But the 13-page load sheet said Hamzah, 41, “was determined to fulfill his personal ambition to rule, violating the Constitution and Hashemite Habits”.
Awadallah and bin Zaid – both have close relations with neighboring Saudi Arabia – has claimed to be innocent for “incitement to the ruling system” and “acts that can threaten the community and create tranquility”.
The verdict will be announced by the State Security Court – Military Court which also includes civilian judges – raised the trial opened on June 21.
Awadallah, who holds Saudi citizenship, and co-devoted facing 20 years in prison if punished with all charges.
Saudi Arabia’s Regional Powerhouse has truly denied involvement in the alleged plot.

Eighteen suspects were arrested after the authorities announced that they had thwarted efforts to disrupt the pro-Western kingdom, but 16 were then released.

The authorities later said he would not judge, because his case had been resolved in the royal family, with Hamzah promising loyalty to Abdullah.

“The final decision is to court, but if it refuses to call him, it must justify it,” he told AFP on June 22.
Bin Zaid’s lawyer said before the verdict that the defense team had asked “to find it both our clients innocent on charges against them”.
Awadallah long education has long been considered a controversial figure and divisions in Jordan, after serving as Minister of Finance and Planning before becoming the Head of the Kingdom Court in 2007.
He played a major role to encourage economic reform, before he resigned in 2008 in the middle – Middle of interfering over suspicion.
