Coimbatore: City Corporation has placed the trash can on Jalan DB, which was developed as a road model under a smart city scheme.
Designed with bright colors, the trash can can be misinterpreted for the closet at first glance.
They have placed 29 trash cans at 1.8km stretch.
“It has three compartments to collect waste.
This is an attempt to instill the habit of separating waste among the population.
The green compartment is intended for biodegradable and wet waste, yellow for recycled waste such as paper and glass, and blue for non-biodegradable waste.” Source It said they wanted a different trash can from being placed in other parts of the city as it was a road model.
“This step has aroused a positive response from people.” P Paneerselvam, a resident, said he had seen the trash in the pedestrian track a few days ago and thought they were sold with a closet.
“The corporation hasn’t installed it.
I checked one of them and found a separate compartment.
Just then I realized it was a trash can.” Residents have urged Civic’s body to ensure that people don’t throw garbage.
“Many people just throw garbage on the road.
Different views of stretches will be spoiled if people are allowed to dispose of litter.
Therefore, the civil body should not stop its efforts by just placing garbage in stretching,” said one of the residents.
