Mangaluru: After seven cases of Omicron variants from Covid-19 were detected in Dakshina Kannada, the district government had made the Panthayat Development Officers (PDO) from Gram Panchayats (GPS) responsible for monitoring students who returned from Kerala after the holiday end of the year after the year-end holidays .
DC has issued a circular in this case with PDO and head of educational institutions.
Most students from Kerala who pursue medicine, nursing, paramedics, techniques and other courses in Dakshina Kannada have returned home for the Christmas holiday.
Deputy Commissioner K V Rajendra has directed institutions and Pancir Development Officers (PDO) to take the steps needed to test students, when they return to their campus, he said.
In his letter to DC, District Supervision Officer Dr.
Jagadeesh has shown that many medical students, paramedics, techniques and other professional students live in personal salary facilities.
However, those who pay guest facilities have not followed the Covid-19 guideline, which leads to the spread of the virus on campus.
Therefore, the supervisory officer has asked for each PDO to monitor all these facilities.
Similarly, district administration has also decided to increase the test.
The district currently conducts an average of 7,000-7,500 tests per day.
The number of tests will be increased to above 10,000 per day, even though the district has reported an average of less than 20 cases per day.
More emphasis will be given to track primary, secondary and tertiary contacts from those who test the positive virus.
Dr Ashok H, District Nodal Officer for Covid-19, told TOI that the Ministry of Health had provided a PHC-wise target for testing.
“We are doing more than 10,000 previous tests, but the amount is reduced, due to a decrease in the number of cases.
We have provided direction to increase the number of tests after the celebration of the festival and the new year.
Even if one case is reported, the contacting mechanism of the contact will be done thoroughly, to find All primary and secondary contacts, “said Dr.
Ashok.
