New Delhi: Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has implemented the ecological recovery of Sanjay Jheel, a man-made Lake in the middle of greenery, one largest green area in Delhi Timur.
In the first phase of the project, an amfitheater, walking traces and cycling tracks have appeared.
As part of Phase-II, the main landscape work will begin this month.
A senior DDA official said that starting in mid-July, landscape development work will begin.
“It will provide space for the public to feel the beauty of nature without disturbing,” he added.
Units that will be made include Murram (gravel) lines to run, new cycle tracks, green mounds, natural path traces and “bioswale” to refill land, which will also provide natural beauty.
A bioswale is a trench or channel with vegetation where Stormwater runoff is concentrated to remove debris and help in filling groundwater.
Created in the 1970s, Sanjay Jheel has become a popular location with attracting visitors, thanks to the presence of water, greenery, and ducks.
DDA is now trying to increase the entire area so that it becomes one of the best recreation areas in the city and the best in East Delhi.
“Apart from the toddler play area, there will be open gym equipment and round areas with shrimpse and brick Jaesi working to weave the beauty of art with nature,” the official said.
DDA will also install an adequate number of benches and sitting platforms for visitors.
“The project deadline will be eight months after the tender award.
It is hoped that it will begin on July 15, so the deadline will be March 15, 2022.
The total cost is expected to rs 1.7 crore,” added the official.
While my phase covers part of a large green area, the current phase will ensure more improvement in a larger part without disturbing the ecology of the area.
There are also plans for Plaza Lakeview, court food, observation deck, meditation garden, duck house, court artist, court statue, cottage crafts, etc.
in the future.
“No work related to transit-oriented development projects is being used,” the official was clarified.
Sanjay Lake View Complex near Trilokpuri in East Delhi is one of the identified TOD projects planned to be developed by DDA along with NBCC.
This complex will come close to the Lake Trilokpuri-Sanjay station from the Pink Line Delhi Metro (Majlis Park-Shiv Vihar) in Dda Land measuring 10.3 hectares (25.3 hectares).
Dda began the ecological recovery of the area more than two years ago.
Water on the lake becomes dirty because the unclean water is mixed with it.
That is why there are plans to make waste treatment plants (STP) there.
“Because the lake is man-made and does not have a catchment area, it depends on rainwater and other sources to feed him,” the official said.
There are plans to use water from the nearest stormwater waterways used by STP.
