Local residents who told the civil authorities panicked because water from the river was the main source of their drinking water.
The body of water was created because weir-cum-causeway on the river but named Narmad Sarovar.
Water flows from banks to banks in the river throughout the year due to water disposal regularly from the UKAI reservoir.
Recently, due to heavy rains in the catchment area, a lake was formed in an area with a water level of up to 6 meters.
Immediately after officials of the Municipal Corporation (SMC) letter got word about dead fish and snakes on the beach of the river, they swung in action.
The Ministry of Health team visits the place and collects water samples.
“Actions will be taken by the relevant departments such as fisheries or GPCB.
But the SMC health department team is very monitoring the situation,” said SMC health official.
“If more fish are found in the next few days, we will start an investigation with support from other departments,” the official added.
In the past, thousands of dead fish were found on Dumas Beach.
Sea experts say that because of a decrease in dissolved oxygen in water, sometimes dead fish in large quantities.
